Algae: The Slimmy Underdog Influencing Life & Nature

Algae are the unsung heroes of the slimy, green underworld. Unassuming, unpretentious, yet secretly holding the keys to diverse multitudes of life's mysteries. While most of us wrinkle our noses at the mere mention of these microscopic, rootless, and leafless wonders, it's high time we peel back the layers of prejudice and embrace the wondrous algae. Picture this: a one-celled, rootless, leafless, and, dare I say, slimy organism that flourishes in the aquatic realms. If you've ever encountered a pool of water that suspiciously looked like it could spawn a horror movie, chances are you've stumbled upon the humble abode of algae. With their unassuming presence, these creatures quietly dominate the waters, silently building an empire of green goo that would make any biologist envious. Who knew that the secret to the perfect ice cream was a splash of algae? Yes, you heard it right. That slimy, yucky plant has found its way into our sweet indulgences, ensuring the cocoa in o...

INSIGHTS - A Humble Gardener

Just as the soil yields bountiful harvests and vibrant blooms, there is a valuable lesson to be learnt from the journey of a master gardener—a man who, without training, cultivated a legacy of horticultural brilliance.

My maternal grandfather, a revered figure in the gardening realm, was a living testament to the power of passion and dedication. His hands, weathered and wise, were his tools of transformation. Without any exposure to formal education, he transformed ordinary patches of earth into verdant wonderlands. His secret? A deep connection with his plants and an unwavering commitment to their well-being

Every plant under his care had a voice, and he listened attentively. He understood the delicate balance required—just the right amount of water, mixing and matching plants that grow well together, support for the crawlers and organic manure. With an experienced eye, he detected the slightest signs of trouble—a lurking pest infestation, a nutrient deficiency, or the whisper of disease. And like a skilled healer, he instinctively knew the perfect remedy.

For 33 years, he lovingly tended to the grounds of a nearby church Mission, nestled amidst coffee plantations that have since given way to the thriving Nyari Upmarket neighbourhood (on the outskirts of the UN - Gigiri Complex). His touch brought forth life and mesmerizing beauty, permeating every corner of the landscape. Even in his retirement, the landscape he blessed with his presence underwent a remarkable metamorphosis, evolving into captivating enchantment. The enduring legacy of his remarkable gardening skills flourished, adorning the gardens with an unparalleled splendour.

Yet, like every gardener who has walked this earth, he encountered his greatest adversary—the weed. With unwavering determination, he battled these intruders, pulling them from the ground with practised fingers. To him, a weed was simply a plant out of place. His watchful eyes missed no opportunity to eliminate these annoying trespassers. Even during leisurely strolls, he stooped to pluck them from the soil his aged and sun-battered frame notwithstanding. He understood that weeds would flourish relentlessly, overpowering his beloved plants if given the chance. So, he acted swiftly, uprooting them when their roots were still tender.

In the teachings of Jesus, we find a powerful analogy. ‘But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. ‘ – Matthew 15:13 NKJV. Weeds represent ideologies, doctrines, and beliefs that do not align with the heavenly wisdom bestowed upon us. The fate of such teachings? They will be rooted out by the Master Gardener, our Heavenly Father. How breathtaking it would be to cultivate a belief system free from the entanglement of weeds, where only the purest and most beautiful truths take root.

The Forgotten Lifesaving Dots and Dashes

Ahoy, there, fellow travelers of the digital age! A marvel of human engineering, it braves the elements, but there's one glaring absence - a voice, a message, any form of communication with the outside world.
